May Presidents Message

Dear ASHRAE Atlanta Chapter Members,

As we wrap up another ASHRAE year, I’ve been reflecting on what an incredible journey it’s been – a year filled with growth, engagement, and meaningful impact.

We kicked off the year with a great presentation from ASHRAE staff and board volunteers, helping us better understand the full range of benefits our membership offers. From there, we built strong momentum with a variety of programs and events, including various technical talks, our Fall and Spring Golf Tournaments, and our Fall and Spring Shooting event. We mixed in new opportunities as well, like our first-ever YEA Pickleball event and onsite tours paired with happy hours and even Atlanta Gladiators games. During Engineers Week, we proudly participated in Day on the Hill, celebrating the vital role engineers play in shaping policy and infrastructure.

One of the year’s standout technical highlights was our full-day Refrigeration Seminar in partnership with Lincoln Associates, a fantastic opportunity for professional development and collaboration.

We were also honored to host Society President Dennis Knight and our Director and Regional Chair Bryan Holcomb. Reflecting on Dennis Knight’s Society theme, Empowering Our Workforce: Building a Sustainable Future, I truly believe our chapter embodied this mission. We worked to engage both existing and new members, creating opportunities for connection, learning, and leadership development to help build a stronger future for our industry.

Beyond the events, I’m proud of the impact we made as a chapter: together, we raised $66,000 toward Research Promotion and contributed $3,500 toward scholarships, directly supporting the next generation of engineers and ongoing innovation within ASHRAE.

As my time as Chapter President comes to a close, I want to sincerely thank each and every one of you – our members, volunteers, board, sponsors, and partners – for your time, energy, and commitment. This chapter thrives because of your dedication, and the success we’ve had this year is a direct reflection of your involvement.

It’s been an honor to serve you all as Atlanta Chapter President, so thank you for making this a memorial and rewarding year.

Kristie Teoh, PE, CEM

"Healthy Buildings: Designing for Life."

Bill McQuade, P.E., CDP, Fellow ASHRAE, LEED AP, will serve as the 2025-26 Society president. In his inaugural presidential address, McQuade introduced the theme for the 2025-26 Society Year, “Healthy Buildings: Designing For Life.” The theme emphasizes the critical role of indoor environmental quality (IEQ) in reducing environmental impacts to the built environment while supporting healthier, more resilient communities.

“Today, shelter is more than just a roof over one’s head,” said McQuade. “Shelter encompasses the hospitals we are born in, the homes where we find comfort, the schools where we learn, and the buildings we work in. A well-designed shelter prioritizes indoor environmental quality, ensuring good air quality, proper lighting, thermal comfort, acoustics and access to safe water, all essential for health and comfort. Providing safe, stable, and sustainable shelter is not just a basic human need, it is a fundamental pillar of societal advancement and long-term development.”
