July Presidents Message

Dear ASHRAE Atlanta Chapter Members,

Summer is coming to an end and that means the new year begins for the Atlanta Chapter of ASHRAE! As a reminder, the ASHRAE year runs from July to June, and we typically do not hold chapter meetings in June or July.

My name is Mark Dahir, I am an Application Consultant at Mingledorff’s, and I will be your Chapter President for the year 2025 - 2026. I have been an ASHRAE member since 2007 and Atlanta Chapter member since 2008. I have served as the Refrigeration Chair for several years and have also served on the Board of Governors for the chapter. I look forward to leading the way for the chapter this year and I anticipate a plethora of opportunities to keep our members engaged!

Our ASHRAE Society President for this year will be Bill McQuade, PE, CDP, LEED AP, Fellow ASHRAE. The Society President sets the theme for the year, and for this year Bill has chosen, “Healthy Buildings: Designing for Life.” His theme emphasizes the critical role of indoor environmental quality (IEQ) in reducing environmental impacts to the built environment while supporting healthier, more resilient communities. Bill recognizes that a safe, stable, and sustainable shelter is not just a basic human need but is also a fundamental pillar of societal advancement and long-term development.

The next chapter meeting will be August 12th from 12 – 1 pm at ASHRAE Headquarters which is located at 180 Technology Pkwy, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092. Lunch will be served at 11:30 am and Luke Meppelder from Critical Environment Technologies (CET) will be presenting on “Gas Detection Fundamentals.”  I hope to see you all there!

You are all welcome to reach out to me directly with any feedback or questions you may have. The chapter is here to serve every one of our more than 900 members, and the participation and feedback of our membership is crucial to our success. We have some terrific topics lined up for our chapter meetings this year, but we are always open to suggestions for what you might find interesting and important. I can also help you get involved if you want to volunteer for the Atlanta chapter.

Thank you for supporting ASHRAE and the Atlanta Chapter!

Mark Dahir, PE

"Healthy Buildings: Designing for Life."

Bill McQuade, P.E., CDP, Fellow ASHRAE, LEED AP, will serve as the 2025-26 Society president. In his inaugural presidential address, McQuade introduced the theme for the 2025-26 Society Year, “Healthy Buildings: Designing For Life.” The theme emphasizes the critical role of indoor environmental quality (IEQ) in reducing environmental impacts to the built environment while supporting healthier, more resilient communities.

“Today, shelter is more than just a roof over one’s head,” said McQuade. “Shelter encompasses the hospitals we are born in, the homes where we find comfort, the schools where we learn, and the buildings we work in. A well-designed shelter prioritizes indoor environmental quality, ensuring good air quality, proper lighting, thermal comfort, acoustics and access to safe water, all essential for health and comfort. Providing safe, stable, and sustainable shelter is not just a basic human need, it is a fundamental pillar of societal advancement and long-term development.”
