Sustainability at Coca-Cola
PJ Newcomb
Sustainability Program manager, Coca-Cola North america
PJ serves as Sustainability Program Manager for Coca-Cola North America. In addition to leading the Energy & Climate space in North America, PJ works on policy, governance, and the tactical integration of all the Environment and Sustainability work streams in North America, including Water Stewardship, Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection, Sustainable Packaging, and Sustainable Agriculture. He has focused on advancing sustainability for most of his career in a variety of sectors, including manufacturing, government, and higher education. PJ started his career as a supplier quality engineer with the Saturn Corporation, where he helped develop their ISO-14001 certified Environmental Management System and served on the site-wide Waste Management Administration Team. PJ then worked as a research engineer with Georgia Tech’s Environmentally Conscious Design and Manufacturing Program, where he worked with a team of professors, graduate students and professionals to assist manufacturers, such as Ford and Interface, to integrate sustainability into their business decision-making routines. PJ continued to serve businesses and organizations in Georgia as an engineer and program manager with Georgia Department of Natural Resource’s Pollution Prevention Assistance Division. Immediately prior to moving to Coca-Cola, PJ served as State Utility Program engineer for the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority, where he worked with 35 state agencies to reduce their energy use and costs.
PJ serves on the Environmental Committee of the American Beverage Association and the Steering Committee of the Georgia Environmental Conference. He also serves on the Advisory Board of Grants to Green, a non-profit that assists Atlanta-area non-profits in reducing their utility bills so they can direct those funds towards advancing their mission. PJ holds BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering as well as an MS in History of Technology from Georgia Tech.
